Procedure

I have observed and assisted Primary 1 and 2. I have learned from the teachers to not only grab the attention of students, but also to keep it as much as possible. Because children have really short attention spans, so it is important to make every part of your teaching as engaging as possible. I started with an introduction, then immediately told them the rules. I have used a customized stamp and sticker to assure them that they will get rewarded at the end of the lecture if they behave well. To motivate them to keep quiet and abide by the rules for a better learning environment. During the class there is at least one child who gets bored really easily. So he laid down on the floor and shouted. I whispered to him that if he behaves well, he'll go home with a stamp. But if he continues to disrupt the class I wont give him any. He immediately went back to his seat and I had to think of another way to keep him busy. It is better to be an active teacher rather than a passive one. Doesn't mean this is my first time teaching, They can already put me in their pockets. It would be unfair to the other children who participates and listens well.

After the rules, I also prepared a game for them. After the game, I flashed pictures of the equipment of a fireman on the screen and made them guess what it is. (our lesson is about jobs and firemen equipment) After the game, I made them answer an activity from the learner's book. This is the activity:

I also played an audio for them to be able to answer the activity.

Then we had a mini review. I wanted to know how many of them can remember and understand what I taught them that day. After the generalization, I gave them assignments, their rewards for behaving and made sure they tidy up their things for their next class.

The time I was given to teach was 2 hours. So I had to make sure my lecture was feasible. To make sure I can really utilize my time. To assign a time for lecture and for activities depending on the level of their readiness and knowledge.

These are the materials I used for teaching :
